Traveled Scholar

Dwarfs who follow the Traveled Scholar Discipline choose to learn about the world through experience combined with study, rather than by study alone. An adept of this Discipline spends much of his life journeying across Barsaive in search of experiences that will enhance his understanding of the world.

Racial Restriction: Dwarfs

Karma Ritual: To perform his Karma ritual, the adept sits lone and reads the pages he wrote in his traveling journal over the past two days. As he reads the text over and over again, he meditates on the events about which he wrote. He reads and meditates for 30 minutes, after which time he awakens from his reverie and writes down what he gleaned from this exercise—usually additions and corrections to his journal.

Artisan Skills: Calligraphy, Manuscript Illumination

Half-Magic: The Traveled Scholar may use half-magic to produce the materials and presentations required for his Discipline. This includes paper and parchment, ink, quills, drawing chalk and charcoal, scrolls (including the woodcarving required to make the handles at each end), scroll and map cases, bookbinding, calligraphy, and illustration. Traveled Scholars also gain access to the Navigation and Mapmaking skills via half-magic.
