Claws of the Dragon
Boatmen serve aboard the countless t’skrang riverboats of the Serpent River. Not every crew member of a t’skrang riverboat follows this Discipline, but those who
do make the best officers and captains on the river. A Boatman must know the river, his crew, and his ship; but many Boatmen choose this Discipline out of a fierce desire to know a little bit about everything else, too.
Important Attributes: Charisma, Dexterity
Racial Restriction: T’skrang
Karma Ritual: To begin his Karma ritual, the Boatman should be moving somewhere on the surface of a body of water (or imagine himself as such), whether on a boat or swimming under his own power. He must fix his gaze on a point on the shore and remain focused on that point until his movement carries it beyond his view. During this time, he must concentrate and remove all fear from his mind. When the ritual is complete, he says aloud: “I have passed beyond my fear
Artisan Skills: Storytelling, Wood Carving
Half-Magic: The Boatman’s uses for half-magic include the maintenance, repair, and construction of riverboats; knowledge of riverboat designs; and recognition of different types of boats, commonly followed trade routes, and riverboat crew complements. Boatmen gain access to the Read River, Sailing, and Navigation skills via half-magic while aboard riverboats. Because working on a riverboat requires a high degree of athletic ability, Boatmen may make Half-Magic Tests to swing from rigging or avoid obstacles while moving around a riverboat.
